I’m almost certain I fell asleep at the foot of the stairs in the back of Jackie’s apartment building for about 15-20 minutes, before I woke up to a phone call from Jackie probably asking me wtf I was doing. I wiped the crumbs off myself (I had originally gone outside to sober up and eat a burrito) and went inside, where I fell asleep again.

We did not watch any bit of FMA.

I am disappoint.

In a few months, I will have a fancy degree in English, but my parents are more fluent in language than I am. To master a language, you have to understand differences that no grammar book can teach you. So much comes down to tone. No one wants their speaker to be unclear. After my father and I got into a fight about his money and my future, he sent me a long email explaining himself through Google translator. I’m the daughter who never calls him enough, and argues in heavy English consonants when I want to confuse him. He is the father who bolded would do anything for you, and said he loved, loves, and is always loving me. His English was not grammatically correct, but it was more emotionally honest than my feelings shielded in sarcasm. I pull it up when I need a reminder of my complicated, contradictory love for a hybridized language that is ours alone.

saw laura marling tonight. she was fantastic and i really liked her guitar work (note: i know nothing about guitar). she kept tuning her guitar throughout the night, so it paved way for some funny stories and shiet. we were also hella close to the stage, so we had a really clear view of her throughout the show, and it was funny to see how she would react every time she messed with the tuning keys and plucked a string.

idk i have feelings.

the first time i received a phone call from angelo about the fact that our writing team was finally creating the outline of what would become our story for pcn 2013.
pcn retreat & the mission peak hike.
honestly. pcn. just pcn in general. i can’t go in depth, otherwise i’ll never stop talking.
wait one more pcn-related one: singkil. i’m proud of the cast for their honesty on this matter and for working so hard to bring it back in. i’ve never felt so proud of them.
on that note… the call out we received for that. LOL it’s strange how much i revel in why that call out was important.
when my english seminar class analyzed my poems. they said my writing and imagery was beautiful.
jackie and i finally deciding to run together.
nights at the palace. studying together during finals in the fall semester. going to alameda and studying at panera.
all those times joanna, marylou, and i were stuck together. i’ve never felt so blessed to live with two people like them. late night conversations, study parties, movies, pizza, safeway runs, target, etc. i do love you both lots. :)
winter retreat, when angelo, irina, fia, and i stayed up talking till 5 in the morning. we didn’t even talk about anything concrete, but that was the first time i realized i wanted to come back to paa.
rhetoric 156. i truly loved that class. i know i didn’t speak up much in it, but i just loved hearing other people talk, and i loved prof. naddaff’s lectures.
mahjong nights. all of them.
confiding to mike about my mom cos he was going through something similar. it came at a time when i thought i was going to burst and i could have broken then and there, but to finally have been able to say something about it gave me so much strength to keep going.
jackie, the text you sent me when we talked about #modernart (LOLOL omg we are offensive), and that entire conversation in general. LOL. this is the nicest thing i’ll say to you right now, but i’m really blessed that i get to work with you. and i do value and cherish our friendship.
…also when you convinced me to read for {m} launch reception. it was the first time i truly realized how much we can and will push each other this upcoming year.
one-on-ones with my adings. especially talking with ading klyde. i realized just how proud i am of him and everything he’s done. i realize that at the end of the day, he truly has an incredibly great heart and people tend to forget it because he’s sarcastic as fuck.
sf exposure trip. !!!!! no words; it was inspiring.
sitting in lecture crying because i was reminded to just breathe in all the positivity around me after that whole post-pcn mess came in. i’d never felt so loved and affirmed by you. thank you thank you thank you. i’m still trying to show you just how much i am grateful for you.
speaking of that, when we first had a professional conversation about it. afterward sydney sat with me as i cried over it. she finally just set down my phone and told me stop looking at it. i felt foolish and silly and angry, but she never let me invalidate my feelings toward the matter.
finding in my anger the immense love i have for this community. i’ve grown so much in it that it’s foolish for me to walk out of cal hating this community. i will never invalidate the work i did here.
i think my friendship with robert and rachel grew tenfold this entire school year. you both are my family. i hope you know that. and i hope you both know that my family thinks you’re family too. LOL. i couldn’t have made it this year without both of you. i honestly could not have. i love you both so much.
